MARYSVILLE Congratulations to Senior Accounting Technician Karen Kussy and Accountant Lisa Schultz in the Finance Department, who were named city of Marysville co-Employees of the Month for January 2007.
We want to recognize Karen and Lisa, who both deserve special recognition for their efforts in going above and beyond their regular duties to keep an understaffed Accounting Division running smoothly, Mayor Dennis Kendall said.
The Accounting Division had been down one position since March 2006, and efforts to fill the workload with temporary employees took more time in training than to jump in and do the work with existing employees, said Denise Gritton, Financial Planning Manager, who nominated the two accountants.
That left the extra accounting workload on the shoulders of Karen and Lisa, Gritton said. From the moment the Accounting Technician position became vacant, they both stepped up and offered to help in any way possible, taking on several additional duties, when they were both in the midst of learning their own new jobs.
A month prior to the vacancy, Kussy was promoted to Senior Accounting Technician and took on the challenge of payroll. During the same period, turnover in the Human Resources Department directly impacted the payroll process. Even though Kussy was working diligently to learn a new job, she willingly took on additional work to help cover the vacant position in the Accounting Division, as well as stepping up to the plate and helping as much as possible with the staffing transitions in Human Resources.
As for Schultz, she had been with the city less than six months, and like Karen, even though she was working to learn her new job, she willingly took on the additional workload. Rather than complaining, both Lisa and Karen have continually asked if there is any more that they can do.
The city filled the accounting position in December, but we would not have made it through 2006 without Karen and Lisas incredible support and dedication, Mayor Kendall said.
Karen and her husband, John, have three daughters, Kami, Kaitlyn and Leah. Lisa is married to husband, Michael.
