MARYSVILLE Citizens are invited to attend a public hearing to share your input on the proposed budget scheduled for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Council Chambers in City Hall, 1049 State Ave.
Mayor Dennis Kendall on Nov. 1 submitted the 2008 Preliminary Budget for the City of Marysville, a financial tool and planning guide that sets reasonable priorities, based on citizens needs, for meeting increasing demands for resources.
Working together with City Councilmembers, department heads and staff, we have developed a balanced, conservative budget that keeps expenditures in check with our growing communitys priorities, and reiterates our vow to cost-effectively deliver a broad range of vital community services. The City and this Administrations top priorities are transportation and public safety, with a variety of programs and projects under way and pending in 2008; investments in transportation and public safety top our spending priorities in the coming year.
This proposed General Fund budget is $29.6 million, which represents a 20 percent increase above 2007 spending levels. This spending plan reflects a disciplined operating philosophy, responsible maintenance of infrastructure, and efficient delivery of community services including public safety, municipal court services, parks and recreation, community development, engineering and other services that Marysville residents expect.
City services require people to deliver them. A thorough analysis of needs in key service and program areas identifies seven new positions necessary in the 2008 proposed budget. New positions include a Property Manager and Risk Management Officer in the Executive Department; a Planning Manager and additional Senior Planner in the Community Development Department; a Water Treatment Plant Operator/Conservation Specialist and IT Technician to manage the utilitys real-time data monitoring and telemetry systems in Public Works; and a Crime Analyst in the Police Department, the latter one of several new positions that requested in mid-year 2007 as part of departmental reorganization.
