MARYSVILLE The city of Marysville will start construction soon on the SR 528 road improvement project from 47th east to 67th Avenue NE, a project that will improve traffic flow through one of the areas major east-west corridors.
The project includes:
Roadway widening and re-striping to provide two lanes in each direction of SR 528;
Middle two-way left turn lane east of 53rd Avenue NE;
New signal at SR 528/47th Avenue intersection that will be ; and
New traffic signal and roadway widening at the 3rd Street and 47th Avenue intersection, with the signal coordinated with the new signal on SR 528/47th.
The City Council in October awarded a $2 million contract in October to G.G. Excavating Inc. of Anacortes. The project is expected to run six to nine months depending on equipment delivery schedules and weather.
The SR 528 project will allow for two lanes of travel in each direction between Interstate 5 and 83rd Avenue NE, said Jeff Massie, Assistant City Engineer and Project Manager. As the population of Marysville and surrounding communities continues to grow, and the
U.S. 2 Hewitt Avenue Trestle becomes more congested, this project is needed to provide roadway capacity necessary to serve increasing traffic volumes. Current traffic volumes are approximately 17,000 vehicles per day.
Initial work on the project will occur at Third Street and 47th Avenue NE, when Snohomish County PUD will begin relocating overhead electrical power lines, says Massie. Television cable and telephone line relocation will follow power relocation. The citys contractor commenced construction of road improvements the week of Nov. 12.
All construction work will occur primarily between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
City crews earlier this month hung door hangers on homes and businesses in the construction zone, and posted flyers on windshields to help notify local people about the coming project, and disruptions that may occur, such as parking.
Existing parallel parking along the north side of 64th Street NE between 55th Drive NE and 67th Avenue NE will be eliminated so that a second westbound lane can be provided.
Commuters and other who park in this area will need to find other parking locations. For boarding Community Transit, parking is available at existing park and ride lots at Marysville Methodist Church, 5600 64th St. NE and along Ash Avenue near Interstate 5. Massie said that while the road construction may be disruptive, the city is taking measures to minimize impacts. It is our intent to minimize inconvenience to residents and citizens by managing the contractor so they can cost-effectively construct the project in a reasonably short timeframe.
