MARYSVILLE — The Marysville-Pilchuck boys basketball team pulled through Cascade in overtime 68-65 Dec. 2 in a non-conference season-opener.

M-P junior Bryce Juneau, who led his team in 21 points, hit a clutch 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to send the Tommies into overtime.

Juneau and teammate senior Cole Grinde put together eight points to help M-P edge out Cascade in overtime.

“Juneau seemed to be willing us to win,” coach Bary Gould said.

M-P’s next games will be hosting Bellingham Saturday, Dec. 6, and Tuesday, Dec. 9, against Snohomish.

ARLINGTON — Even with a new set of starters, the Arlington boys basketball team put away Mount Vernon 86-57 Dec. 2 in its season-opening non-conference game.

“We had too many turnovers, but we shot well,” coach Nick Brown said. “We played much better defense in the second half.”

Team leaders were junior Donovan Sellgren netting 21 points, and sophomore teammate Drew Bryson scoring 22.

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Getchell boys basketball team lost its season opener to Meadowdale 65-37 Dec. 2 in a non-conference game.

MG’s next games are Friday, Dec. 5, at Lake Stevens and will host Granite Falls Saturday, Dec. 6, and Mariner Tuesday, Dec. 9.

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Cougars boys basketball team opened its season defeating its perennial rival from Australia, the Mornington Breakers, 72-43 Dec. 3 in a non-conference game.

Lakewood’s senior Paul Coleman led the team with 25 points and teammate senior Chance Schueller scored 17 points and led with 10 rebounds.

“We worked on high-energy defense, rotating quickly, talking on defense and forcing turnovers,” coach Anthony Wiederkehr said.
