EVERETT A 23-year-old son of Othello, Wash., Stephen Beus studied piano performance with Dr. Leonard Richter at Whitman College and has since won some significant awards for his talent. The talented young musician will perform at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5 to benefit the Snohomish County Chapter of Music Teachers National Association.
Beus recently finished his Master of Music degree at The Julliard School and is currently a scholarship student at The Julliard School in the highly selective Artists Diploma program where he studies with Robert McDonald.
He is the up and coming classical performing artist of the next generation, said Jane Campbell, of the Snohomish County Music Teachers Association.
This year Beus won gold medals in three of the most prestigious international competitions. In April, he was named an American Pianists Association fellow receiving concert engagements and cash awards to total $75,000 over two years.
He won a gold medal at the International Vendome Prize, in Lisbon Portugal, and in June he won the gold at the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition in Salt Lake City.
Competition is intense for these honors, with candidates selected by distinguished judges from thousands of applicants.
Beus has maintained an ambitious performance and competition schedule since his first symphony at age 9. He performed From the Top on National Public Radio and was a participant of the 2005 Van Cliburn Competition. He has recorded a solo CD and a DVD.
Cosponsored by Seattle Sherman Clay, the concert starts 7 p.m. at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave, Everett.
Tickets are available at the door for $15 adults and $10 student.
