Auction raises funds for charity

More than 150 community members recently attended the Soroptimist International of Marysville’s annual auction.

SMOKEY POINT — More than 150 community members recently attended the Soroptimist International of Marysville’s annual auction.

The auction took place on Oct. 24 at the Medallion Hotel in Smokey Point.

Dozens of auction items, ranging from an autographed football from the University of Washington football team to a dog accessory kit, were available for purchase during the annual event.

“We were happy with the attendance,” Marysville Soroptimist Mary Jane Miller said. “It was one of those cases where a good time was had by all.”

Attendees and Soroptimist members were encouraged to wear costumes for the auction, which was titled “Hoots ‘n’ Haunts.”

Miller said as of Monday, Oct. 26, she was not sure exactly how much was raised through the event, but said it was not as much as they had received in previous years.

“The economy has had an effect on people,” she said. “We’re not alone.”

Soroptimist International of Marysville is an organization of business and professional women who are dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in the local community.

Each year, the local Soroptimist members provide scholarships and donations to various community organization and programs.
