Fire Santa Run starts Dec. 7
ARLINGTON – The Annual Santa Run Food Drive kicks off Dec. 7 and ends Dec. 16. Arlington firefighters, their families and friends escort Santa through Arlington neighborhoods on a decorated fire truck, gathering food and monetary donations for the Arlington Food Bank. AEA Santa Breakfast Dec. 1
ARLINGTON – The Arlington Education Foundation presents the 3rd Annual Santa Breakfast at Presidents Elementary Dec. 1. Santa will be joined this year by special guests Belle and Spiderman.
The pancake breakfast features a hot chocolate bar, crafts and pictures with Santa. Two sessions are available to choose from: 8:30-10 a.m. or 10:30-noon. Tickets are $15 each, available online at www.arlingtonedfoundation.org.
Women leaders honored
EVERETT – Leadership Snohomish County recently honored two women business leaders for their contributions in Arlington.
Stilly Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jennifer Egger was awarded the Deborah Knutson Women in Leadership Scholarship from the organization.
The group also recognized Diane Kamionka, interim executive director of the NW Innovation Center, with the same award for her efforts to help local inventors and entrepreneurs in north Puget Sound.
The award recognizes a local woman business leader. Kamionka is working with Arlington civic and business leaders to establish an Innovation Center in Arlington at the site of the former Howell building on Olympic Avenue.
The scholarship fund and award are named after Knutson, a longtime county economic development leader who died in 2016 after a battling a rare neurological disorder.
Concert in Arlington
ARLINGTON – The North Cascades Concert Band will perform at Arlington High School Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. The concert will also feature the AHS Symphonic Band under the direction of John Grabowski.
NCCB conductor/music director Robert Pattermann’s theme is “Music Magic From The Masters.”
Selections will include: marches by Sousa, Beethoven and Percy Grainger; classics from Bizet and Wagner; and “A Tribute to American Jazz” arranged by Sammy Nestico.
The program will conclude with a few songs of the holiday season.
The Byrnes Performing Arts Center is located at 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
Donations cover expenses and also provide for an annual scholarship to a high school senior going into music education.

Woman dies
An 18-year-old Darrington woman died in a single-car accident Nov. 15.
Mishelle Konertz was eastbound on Highway 530 at milepost 34 when she lost control of the car, crossed the center line and struck a pole.
The accident took place at about 11:24 that night.
New kennel roof for dogs
ARLINGTON – Axis Roof and Gutter recently donated supplies and labor to install a new roof over the dog kennels at Arlington Police Department.
The kennels are used to house lost dogs until they are reunited with owners.
Axis heard about the need for a new roof and had some excess supplies from a recent project. Stoneway Roofing Supply also donated supplies. Crews from Axis also built new platforms in the kennels.
