2 locals part of national championship soccer team

MARYSVILLE – Two girls who will be entering Marysville high schools this fall were part of a soccer team that won a national championship July 13 in Westfield, Indiana.

MARYSVILLE – Two girls who will be entering Marysville high schools this fall were part of a soccer team that won a national championship July 13 in Westfield, Indiana.

Kaitlynn Knocke will be going to Marysville Getchell and Trina Davis to Marysville-Pilchuck high schools as freshmen in September.

The girls’ team, called Washington Rush, beat Scottsdale, AZ in the final 3-0 to win the under 14 division of the U.S. Club Soccer National Premier League July 13. The team went 5-0 in the tourney, scoring 10 goals and giving up just two.

In pool play the team beat New Jersey, Massachusetts and California. In the semifinals they beat Salmon Creek 1-0 to advance to the title game.

To get to the tourney, the team won the Northwest title with a 7-0-1 record, with 17 goals, giving up three.

They also: were finalists in the PacNW Winter Classic; finalists in the Regional Club spring season; co-champions in the Northwest Champions League; semi-finalists in the Virginia Mason US Youth Soccer Washington State Championships; and Under-15 Champions in the 2015 Rainier Challenge. The girls will be traveling to San Diego later this summer for another tournament.

The team is coached by former Sounder Kevin Sakuda.
