2 arrests in June 1 shooting involving drugs at Marysville apartments

MARYSVILLE – Detectives late Thursday arrested two people in connection with an early morning shooting involving drugs June 1 at a Marysville apartment complex that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

A Covington man, 27 and a Federal Way woman, 29, were booked into the Snohomish County Jail on two counts each of first-degree robbery and assault.

A week-long investigation revealed the shooting was related to an alleged planned robbery of drugs and money from a suspected drug dealer in the Marysville area, Cmdr. Mark Thomas said.

The investigation was more complex than most because detectives had to interview several individuals and most of them from from outside the area, Thomas said.

“Although the investigation continues, these arrests mark a significant development in our investigation,” stated Cmdr. Mark Thomas, “we will continue to follow up on any leads as they develop.” The shooting victim, a 39-year-old man from Kent, remains hospitalized at Harborview Hospital in Seattle. He has not yet spoken to detectives due to the nature of his injuries.

In the June 1 incident about 3 a.m., officers and medics responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls of shots fired at the Wishing Well apartments on 88th Street NE near State Avenue. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots.

Responders found the victim outside in the parking lot. Paramedics rushed him to Providence General Medical Center for surgery, and he was later transferred to Harborview.
