A member of Arlington Boy Scout Troop No. 29, Zach Tankersley finished his Eagle Scout project just in time for Presidents Elementary School’s carnival.

He refurbished four carnival games and built five new ones. He also created a book with photographs, rules and operator’s instructions for each of the 28 total games owned by the school’s PTA.

His Eagle Project was approved Feb. 22 and completed April 17.

The project included washing, sanding, re-painting and varnishing the four existing games. He also constructed new games, including a Plinko game, a Frisbee throw game, a pirate’s chest game, a putt-putt game and a new cake walk game.

“He held four different work parties to get the work done,” said his mother, Susan Tankersley.

The young man recruited people who worked more than 200 hours to complete the project.

“He is currently working on his final merit badge required for his Eagle Scout Rank,” his mother said.

“It’s good to have this project done,” said Zach Tankersley.

“There were so many different tasks involved in this project that it was interesting to work on. I’m disappointed that I have to miss the actual carnival this year since my jazz band, On Hold, will be performing at the Reno Jazz Festival at the University of Nevada on the same day. I hope the kids enjoy the new games,” he said.

“Zach would like to thank all the businesses and private parties who donated to his project,” Susan said. Donors include Lowe’s, Sherwin Williams Paint Store, Whidbey Island Bank and Hillman.

In addition, President’s PTA gave him a budget to help pay for supplies.

Sponsored by the President’s Elementary School PTA at President’s Elementary School, 505 E. Third St., the PTA Carnival is 6-9 p.m., Friday, April 25. Admission is free, and tickets for games cost 25 cents a piece. Along with games there is also a cupcake walk and auction.
