‘Rocktoberfest’ returns to Marysville Oct. 13-14

MARYSVILLE — Marysville will be "rocking out" for the 38th year in a row on Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, as the cafeteria of Totem Middle School again hosts the Marysville Rock and Gem Club's annual "Rocktoberfest" event.

MARYSVILLE — Marysville will be “rocking out” for the 38th year in a row on Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, as the cafeteria of Totem Middle School again hosts the Marysville Rock and Gem Club’s annual “Rocktoberfest” event.

“There will be dealers with rough, slab and polished cabs to gem quality faceting rough, as well as minerals, fossils, jewelry, beads, gems, lapidary equipment and tools,” said Dottie Haage, publicity chair for the Marysville Rock and Gem Club. “There will also be jewelry artists, club displays, demonstrators and games for kids.”

In addition to door prizes every half-hour, silent auctions, food service and raffle prizes, one of this year’s many items in the raffle will be a 27-inch by 14-inch by 8-inch Brazilian amethyst cathedral geode.

Gracie Wiggs, a 96-year-old Arlington resident who’s been an active member of the Marysville Rock and Gem Club for the past 10 years, will be featured at this year’s event.

“It was at the age of 18 that Gracie first learned to bead beautiful necklaces, some of which she still has today, but life happens,” Haage said. “She put down her needle for college, music, marriage and kids. Just eight years ago, she picked up that needle and started beading again. This is the talent she is best known for among the rock club communities. Her work is outstanding. The use of intricate patterns and beads, designing the colors around many of the cabochons her husband had made all those years ago, is truly artistic.”

Admission and parking are both free for Rocktoberfest, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days. Totem Middle School is located at 1605 Seventh St. NE in Marysville.
