Play making noise about being hilarious

MARYSVILLE – The action-packed play-within-a-play called “Noises Off” will close the Red Curtain Arts Center theater season May 19-June 4.

Often called the funniest farce ever, “Noises Off” presents a manic menagerie as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called “Nothing On.” Doors slamming, on- and offstage intrigue, costume mishaps, and an errant plate of sardines all figure in the plot of this hilarious play.

The British comedy, directed by Scott B Randall, even allows the audience to see the mayhem from the backstage side, as the two-story set is built to turn 180 degrees between acts.

The cast consists of nine Snohomish County actors, some of whom are Red Curtain favorites and others who are making a comeback following an extended hiatus from the stage. Many members play two roles – the actor in the play “Nothing On”, and his/her character. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 8 and Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Red Curtain Arts Center, 9315 State Ave, Suite J – behind the frontage stores like Goodwill. Ticket prices are $14-$17. The play contains some adult situations and language, and may not be appropriate for children under age 12.

Tickets may be purchased at brownpapertickets.com/event/2933106; at the box office by phone at 360-322-7402; or in-person at the arts center Tuesday-Saturday from 2-6 p.m. For details go to www.redcurtainfoundation.org.
