Abstract art has been in the forefront of the art world since the early part of the 19th century when such renowned artists as Picasso, Matisse, Klee, Kandinsky and Rothko, among others, started painting their feelings and concepts and altered perspectives on things, to create a whole new style of art.

These artists sharply impacted the art world that was stuck in the stuffy realistic styles of the day, according to the show’s curator, a school bus driver with the Lakewood School District and mother of two.

Osti is known around Snohomish County and beyond for her exuberant colorful abstract style of painting and mono-printing. One impressive piece hangs in the Stillaguamish Athletic Club.

Other artists in the show include this year’s Snohomish County Artist of the Year, Reg Akright, and many former artists of the year from around Snohomish County, such as Arlington artist Kathryn Glowen and a Tulalip resident Bob Mitchell, as well as Susan Russell, of Snohomish. Other participants include Pat Tolle, Lance Carleton, Karon Leigh, Jules Anslow and more, who are celebrating spring with lots of color and expression.

The show runs from April 19 through May 10. The gallery is open from 4-7 p.m., Friday nights with potluck parties weekly and from 1-5 p.m., Saturdays.

Osti has announced a fun and playful workshop will be held from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, April 26 when all ages are welcome to play. The $30 fee includes all supplies. Space is limited to 12, so call to reserve at 425-446-2635 or 425-308-2061.
