MARYSVILLE — The Summer Jubilee was started more than a decade ago to provide school supplies for children in the community who otherwise would have been unprepared for their first days of school, and the organizers of the event this year will be expanding its locations while getting it “back to basics,” in the words of Stacy Henrichs.

Henrichs is overseeing this year’s Summer Jubilee, which represents a collaboration between 15 Marysville and Arlington churches. It’s set for Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. While previous years’ Summer Jubilees have been centralized in a single location, Henrichs hopes to make it easier on both event organizers and attendees this year by dividing it up into three locations — Asbery Field at Totem Middle School, Cascade Elementary and Shoultes Elementary.

“We have about 3,000 sets of school supplies, so we’ll have about 1,000 at each of those three schools,” Henrichs said. “Each of those three sites will have school supplies for elementary, middle and high school students, so you won’t need to go to any one specific location of the three to get what you need.”

Henrichs estimated that last year’s Summer Jubilee handed out 3,800 sets of school supplies and “went out with a bang.” Although each of this year’s three locations will also feature food and games, she explained that this year’s event organizers wanted to refocus primarily on channeling the donations that area churches have received into distributing school supplies to students in the community. “Our churches know that this need exists, and we want to provide for the communities that we’re part of,” Henrichs said.
