MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Strawberry Festival is going Hollywood, or rather “Berrywood,” for 2011.

This year’s Strawberry Festival theme is meant to reflect a Hollywood flavor, according to Jodi Hiatt, the past president and current director of the April Friesner Memorial Royalty Scholarship Pageant.

The Royalty Scholarship Pageant will return to the Marysville-Pilchuck High School auditorium on Feb. 26 starting at 7 p.m., with tickets available at the door for $10 apiece.

The Junior Royalty candidates include Marysville sixth-graders Cassie Bergland, Julianna Cameron, Kennedy Doty, Sheridan Hedman, Denise Jacobson, Rileigh McConnaughy, Alyssa Ortiz, Ashley Thoreson and Faith Verburg.

The Senior Royalty candidates include Marysville-Pilchuck High School seniors Alyssa Crombag and Ashlynn Woodward, Marysville Getchell High School seniors Samantha Bergland, Megan Carlson, Rosa Chevez, Tabitha Price and Lauren Stallcup, and Getchell juniors Erik Kundu, Farrah Wolgamott, Louie Vital and Esther Yun.

Crombag volunteers as a “Big Buddy” and plans to attend Everett Community College for two years before transferring to the University of Washington to become an entrepreneur with an eye toward starting a modeling agency.

Woodward is enrolled in the “Running Start” program at EvCC and plans to earn her cosmetology license before getting a bachelor’s degree in teaching. She was part of the Strawberry Festival’s Junior Royalty in 2005.

Bergland is employed at Ecko Unlimited and enrolled in her second year of Running Start. She serves as executive producer of TV-3 at Getchell and plans to attend either the University of Washington or Hawaii for marketing or communication.

Carlson enjoys working with children and plans to attend EvCC for a career as a dental hygienist.

Chevez volunteers at Sunnyside Elementary and plans to attend either Western Washington University or Central Washington University to become a special education teacher and work with children with autism.

Price is employed at Party City and also volunteers at Sunnyside. She hopes to become a high school teacher after attending WWU.

Stallcup is employed at the Gap Generation, serves as editor of the Journalism Club and runs marathons for cancer research. She also plans to attend EvCC for two years, before transferring to Western State University.

Kundu is employed at Skechers USA, volunteers for several local community organizations and plans to attend the University of Victoria in British Columbia to pursue a career in law.

Wolgamott is involved in ASB Leadership, volunteers at Sunnyside and the Marysville YMCA, and plans to attend UW to become a lawyer.

Vital serves as the ASB student ambassador and public relations officer for the Mock Trial Club, and volunteers at Sunnyside and the Marysville Community Food Bank. She plans to attend UW to pursue her dreams of becoming a district representative and possibly governor.

Yun is a National Honor Society member and a Sunday school teacher who plans to attend UW or New York University to become either a fashion magazine editor or a dermatologist.
