Marysville American Legion conducts flag retirement in Arlington

ARLINGTON — Marysville American Legion Post 178 is interested in collecting any American flags that need to be retired for a flag disposal ceremony July 25 near Bryant.

Post 178 Cmdr. Ken Cage is inviting anyone who owns a flag that has “outlived its usefulness” to call him at 360-659-5808 to arrange for the proper disposal of those flags.

Post 178 member Jim Eastbury has volunteered to host a pot luck picnic on his estate, from 1-3 p.m. at 2820 Stanwood-Bryant Road in Arlington, prior to the flag retirement ceremony, which will take place on site starting at 3 p.m.

“This will be a combination social picnic and ceremonial flag retirement, using the American Legion flag disposal procedures,” Cage said. “We hope we can expect a large turnout from our own post for this.”

The Marysville Legion post will provide burgers and dogs, but members of other Legion posts are welcomed and encouraged to take part in the ceremony. Eastbury has already received a commitment from Coca-Cola to donate four cases of soda, while the rest of the meal will be pot luck.

For more information, call Cage at 360-659-5808.
