Santa Rosa, Calif. — The daughter of an Arlington resident, Heather Littlefield, of Petaluma, Calif., was one of 1,000 students nationwide to earn national recognition from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for 2008.

A sophomore at Santa Rosa’s Sonoma Academy, Littlefield won in the category of graphic design for the poster she designed promoting the school’s production of “Hamlet.”

The work, “Ophelia,” is comprised of a photograph of a woman wrapped in a shroud and portrayed laying horizontally with legs at the top of the poster.

More than 100,000 works were submitted to 76 regional competitions and only 1,000 students received national gold or silver awards.

Littlefield is the daughter of Charissa Drengsen of Petaluma and Ed Littlefield of Arlington.
