Lakewood school leaders learn to ‘Stop the Bleed’

LAKEWOOD – More than 100 Lakewood School District staff have received life-saving “Stop the Bleed” training this year.

The course, taught by district nurse Kelsey Mitchel, teaches participants how to recognize and respond to life-threatening bleeding. Through hands-on practice, participants learn to apply compression, pack wounds and apply tourniquets.

After completion of the course, attendees receive a “Stop the Bleed” kit to keep in their classroom or coaching bag. Each kit contains a tourniquet, hemostatic gauze, a compression bandage, gloves and trauma shears.
