MARYSVILLE – Healthy Communities Challenge Day is all about young people having fun.

And Jordan Dimick fit right in at the little fish pond set up at the Puget Sound Pediatric Dentistry booth. Jordan’s face grimaced as he pretended to land a big one as booth employee Kelsey Cleary laughed.

Maddex Behrendt enjoyed himself grabbing two tennis rackets that had been soaking in soap and twirling around creating bubbles at the Marysville School District booth.

At another booth, Kalleigh and Brantley Duffield played with sticks and balls in a tower.

Dozens of vendors that offer programs for kids participated, such as the city parks department, which offers various camps throughout the summer.

Most had activities for kids to try and most offered small prizes for participating.

Such as at the Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce booth kids who played Ladder Ball won a free ticket for a ride at their carnival June 7. At the Tulalip Lions Club booth, kids could take home free books.

At some booths the activities were the attraction, such as lifting barbels or bouncing on a ball at Crossfit Orenda/CF Kids.

Entertainment also was provided by various groups, such as Kung Fu 4 Kids and Rising Stars Gymnastics.

Kids could kick a soccer ball into the net at the Pilchuck Soccer Alliance, go inside the Bearcat armored truck of the Marysville Police Department, pretend you’re rowing a boat at North Cascade Crew or throw sand bags and win a mini beach ball from Marysville United Methodist Church.

The free event was at Allen Creek Elementary School last Saturday.
