MARYSVILLE — During a family vacation to Big Four Ice Caves in Verlot, Wash., Marysville fifth-grader Grace Makoto Tam was struck by a falling chunk of ice and passed away.

Grace was an avid writer of short stories, poetry and entries in her own journal, so in her memory, her parents — John Tam and Tamami Okauchi — put together a collection of her writings, along with letters from friends and family, entitled “Love Is …”

From Grace’s suggestions about how to eliminate food waste in “More Lunch Choices,” to her creative tale of granted wishes in “Are Wishes What You Want?”, “Love Is …” offers a glimpse into a young girl’s thoughts, opinions and imagination.

Grace’s parents will be signing copies of the book from 4:30-7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, and Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Kung Fu 4 Kids, located at 804 Cedar Ave. in Marysville. This event had previously been cancelled due to snow.
