Happy Holidays, Winter Celebration and Spirit of the Holidays giving programs are politically correct sayings for corporations, governments, civic organizations and schools attempting to eliminate the words, Merry Christmas. The organizations painfully strive to be so inclusive, yet, they are taking away from the actual reason for the celebration and holiday, Christmas.
Jesus is the reason for the season. At Christmas, we celebrate the intimate birth of Jesus into our lives, hearts and our world. As a youngster during Advent, I recall kneeling in prayer before the Manger Scene and figurines representative of Mary, Joseph and infant Jesus. Straw laid thrown about as simple carpet, while the shepherds and cattle watched closely in awe. An angel hovered above and the star shined brightly.
People and their institutions are afraid to joyfully use the word Christmas to celebrate and greet each other with the simple, traditional Merry Christmas. Today, it is time to change that attitude. May the peace, love, joy, and Spirit of the infant Jesus be with all during the Christmas Season. Merry Christmas.
