Bad food

My heart goes out to the pet owners around the country whose pets have been made sick and sometimes killed by contaminated wheat gluten from China. To see any living creature, especially a much-loved one, suffering is a painful experience for anyone.

It does make me question yet again the supposed benefits of big business globalization policy. Why, in a supposedly sane world, do we ship flour to China to make their dumplings and wontons, while they ship wheat gluten to us for pet food? Our farmers operate under a more regulated growing environment than theirs; Chinese farmers, we are told, use melamine powder for fertilizer and it in some way contaminated the wheat gluten. Perhaps I should be grateful they didnt ship us flour. Another example of the corporate penny wise and pound foolish?
