MARYSVILLE — The city of Marysville was recently honored with the WellCity Award from the Association of Washington Cities Employee Benefit Trust for the fourth straight year.

Marysville is one of 84 Washington cities and towns that earned recognition for its workplace wellness program.

The AWC WellCity Award recognizes cities and towns that demonstrate best practices in employee health promotion. A city must meet the minimum criteria in each of nine WellCity standards to receive the award.

As an award recipient, the city of Marysville will receive a 2 percent premium discount on Regence BlueShield medical coverage for employees and spouses in 2013, one of the health care packages the city offers, according to Kristie Guy, human resources director for the city of Marysville. Based on 2012 rates, the estimated cost savings will be $63,723.

Guy credits members of the city of Marysville’s Wellness Committee for coordinating several health and fitness programs and seminars throughout the year, as well as encouraging employee participation in numerous leagues and sporting activities that build morale and promote fitness.

“The committee’s enthusiasm and commitment to a healthier and safer workplace has been beneficial for city employees and their families,” Guy said. “The members have built a model wellness program that has a positive impact on employee health and productivity.”

The committee is composed of representatives from various departments, labor unions and management.
