Testing doesn’t mean you’re dirty Everett
Testing doesn’t mean you’re dirty Everett

This past June, bill number H. Con. Res. 384 was introduced to Congress. This bill proposes a National day of HIV/AIDS testing and education. There is a bizarre stigma attached to HIV/AIDS testing. Just because you choose to educate yourself about disease transmission and learn your status does not mean you are promiscuous and dirty. People remaining ignorant about their status and practicing unsafe sexual practices are a major factor in the rise of HIV/AIDS cases.

Yes to restoring Emergency Medical Services levy
Yes to restoring Emergency Medical Services levy

I am writing to encourage all voters to restore our previously authorized Emergency Medical Services Levy back to its original rate of 50 cents per thousand dollars of assessed property valuation. This is a necessary action for Marysville and District 12 to be able to continue to respond to the needs of its citizenry.

You have to hand it to anyone who is brave enough and willing to throw their lives into the political arena. In the case of the state senator position for District 10, two women have joined a race against senior senator Mary Margaret Haugen. While District 10 comprises a small share of our readership, i.e. west of I-5 strip from Skagit County to northern Marysville, some of us do have the opportunity to vote in that race.

A new section for the Globe and Times? Smokey Point (Arlington)
A new section for the Globe and Times?...
August 5, 2008 2:23 pm

Ten years ago the cities of Marysville and Arlington divided up the Smokey Point / Lakewood community over the objections of the residents. Today we are still seeing this division being done by the cities’ newspapers. While The Arlington Times will sometimes cover news about Smokey Point, the Times and Marysville Globe seem to have decided that the Lakewood School District is only of interest to those living in Marysville. A large percentage of residents served by the Lakewood School District live within Arlington city.

There’s nothing quite like a summer squall to remind us that some plants need a little help standing up on their own. Last week’s rains did just that for me. My garden was proud and perky and standing tall before Mother Nature dropped three quarters of an inch of rain on it. The weight of all that water on the foliage caused limbs to bow down, sometimes all the way to the ground, and in some cases even snap off. It wasn’t a pretty sight and yet I could have prevented a lot of it had I just done some preventative staking.
