A construction crew from McDowell Northwest uses a huge crane to bore one of 257 holes into the ground last week at the site of the Marysville School Districts new elementary school. Each one of the 60-foot-deep holes will be filled with a rebar cage and concrete to create hundred of stilts to support the slab floor in case of an earthquake.

String band plays benefit for Floyd Norgard Cultural...

From back left, Erich Schweiger on fiddle, Jack Archibald on banjo, Jim Karr on standup bass, Bill Gum on standup bass, Chaim Bezalel on guitar and autoharp and front, Monika de Nasha on banjo, Rebecca Fletcher on hammered dulcimer and mandolin, Paul Platis on guitar and John Muhler on percussion comprise the South End String Band, will perform a benefit concert at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave., in Stanwood at 7 p. m. Saturday, Jan. 13. A common practice for this Camano Island community band, the group of artists and professionals often play for free for many a good causes around Camano Island, Stanwood, and sometimes beyond. Thats why they played at the Save-the-Grange Dinner, the Camano Community Centers St. Pats Day fundraisers and for the Snow Goose Festival as well as many school concerts in the area. Along with their musical talents, the event will include the visual expressions of participating musicians with an array of watercolors, graphics, pottery, oil paintings, stained glass and more. All proceeds from admissions and art sales will be donated to support future music and art at the Floyd.
