The Salvation Army in Marysville would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the community of Marysville and surrounding areas for their generosity of resources and time in our efforts to help those affected by the flooding in Lewis County. The donation drop efforts took place last weekend. The donations received included: shovels, animal feed, cleaning products, water, blankets, etc. There was also a large monetary outpouring.

Is it politics again?
Is it politics again?

I attended an Olympic Rental Association meeting on Saturday, Dec. 8, in Everett, Wash. The Keynote Speaker was Dan Kristiansen, State Representative for District 39. One of the questions he was asked was what he thought about a branch campus of the University of Washington being built in Everett. His response to this question flabbergasted me. He said he could not support this effort.

Recognizing Achievers at Haller (RAH for short) is a program that has a long history at the middle school level and which Haller Middle School carried over from Post Middle School. Students are nominated by their teachers and other staff members to recognize character strengths that help promote a successful school climate, such as leadership, citizenship, sportsmanship, organization skills, creativity in writing and the arts and musical abilities. Students are nominated only once during the school year in order to recognize as many deserving students as possible.

A huge thank you to Masons Lodge No. 129 in Arlington. The Masons collected truckloads of clothing to benefit Arlington Kids Kloset and Helping Hands in Arlington. This May marked their Second Annual collection of gently used clothing items from families in the Gleneagle Community. Each May, Gleneagle sponsors a community garage sale event. The Masons gathered donations of clothing from the garage sale, sorted the clothing in the basement of the Lodge and then delivered two truck loads to Arlington Kids Kloset and seven truck loads to Helping Hands.

I am taking a moment to express my strong disapproval of uniforms for the middle school or high school students. I have two students in the Marysville School District, one entering seventh grade at Cedarcrest and one entering 12th at M-PHS.

If youve moved to North Snohomish County within the last 20 years, its time to shut the door behind you. Those who have been here longer and can remember when the area was even more beautiful than it is now its time to stiffen the spine.

High School commencement is a long established public ceremony to recognize student achievement. A time to honor the students and to convey our appreciation of completion of a task, a goal met, applause for a job well done.

In David Meyerings letter to the editor published in the July 4 edition of the paper, the last section of the letter should have read, Hospitals are closing all over the nation because of demographics and mandated but unfunded congressional requirements that emergency room care be given to anyone who shows up. Now, here we are, barely keeping our heads above water and we pass a bond to double the size of our facilities while reducing the staff. The unfunded was erroneously printed at unfounded.

Many thanks to Arlingtons Cascade Valley Hospital for the outstanding care I was given for any emergency surgery in August of last year. I am so thankful that I was properly diagnosed and I was able to be taken in for surgery when I arrived at the hospital. The staff on the surgery floor was all so kind and efficient and I had wonderful care during my stay. What a blessing it was to be in good hands.
