A couple of things I have just about given up on. Making people realize that candles are never left unattended unless they are secured in lanterns with glass chimneys and the fastest most elusive creature on earth is a toddler.

Marysville Mayor Dennis Kendall and Arlington Mayor Margaret Larson were both on the receiving end recently; Mayor Kendall got a pay raise and Mayor Larson got an earful from local residents concerned about public safety.
Normally, after the close of the filing period for the primary and general elections in which there are local races, I find myself lamenting the fact that while many in our community are willing to voice their opinions as to what is wrong in our communities often blaming the elected officials leading them few are willing to step up and run for elected office so that they can be a part of the solution.

If youre like me, every time you cross a bridge since the Minneapolis disaster, you breathe a sigh of relief when you make it to the other side.
Some people welcome change with open arms while others dread it like a pending apocalypse. I would be the first to admit that, even if it were a voluntary change, I would fall in the group that dreads change rather than in the group that welcomes it.
