Marysville police have arrested an adult male subject in connection with the burning down of a local berry stand during the early morning hours.
At around 6:30 a.m., April 2, Marysville police responded to a reported fire of the Dues Berry Farm stand, located in the 14000 of Smokey Point Blvd., in Marysville. Alert citizens called 9-1-1 about the fire and were able to provide a detailed description of a male subject walking away from the building. Based on the witness description a Marysville police officer located and arrested the suspect.
The suspect, a 33-year-old transient man, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for First Degree Reckless Burning.
The berry stand is somewhat of a landmark in Marysville. It has been used seasonally, during berry season, for more than 40 years, said Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux. The stand was a total loss, estimated at $1,000.
If not for the watchful eye of the citizens who reported the fire, and the subsequent detailed description they provided, we may not have been able to make an arrest in this case, said Lamoureux.
