SCMTA announces concerto competition winners

An Arlington High School flautist, Colleen McElroy, won honorable mention in the Snohomish County Music Teachers Associations 2006-2007 concerto competition, which was held Oct. 8 at Roys Place in Lynnwood.

An Arlington High School flautist, Colleen McElroy, won honorable mention in the Snohomish County Music Teachers Associations 2006-2007 concerto competition, which was held Oct. 8 at Roys Place in Lynnwood.
Among the competition were 13 piano, two flute and two violin students who competed for the honor of playing with the Everett Symphony Orchestra or the Port Gardner Bay Chamber Orchestra.
The winners were Matthew Palumbo, 17, a pianist from Mill Creek, who was selected to play with the Everett Symphony Orchestra on their March 31, 2007 concert, with Joshua Chao, of Kamiak High School, Mukilteo, as the alternate for that concert. Chao was also selected to play with the Port Gardner Bay Chamber Orchestra on its Jan. 14, 2007 concert.

Rebecca Holtgeerts, flute, Cascade High School, Everett.
Nora Gunning, piano, Everett High School, was chosen as alternate for the Port Gardner Bay Symphony.
