Marysville fire responds to third fire in four days caused by discarded smoking materials

At approximately 6:43 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, the Marysville Fire District was dispatched to a residential fire in the 4800 block of 66th Avenue NE. Firefighters arrived at 6:50 p.m. and located a fire on the exterior of a two-story residential structure.

MARYSVILLE – At approximately 6:43 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, the Marysville Fire District was dispatched to a residential fire in the 4800 block of 66th Avenue NE. Firefighters arrived at 6:50 p.m. and located a fire on the exterior of a two-story residential structure.

Original reports said there was “light smoke from the roof of the home.” The first arriving captain reported a light smoke condition from the roof, and confirmed a working fire on the exterior of the residential structure as well as the homeowner using a garden hose to extinguish the fire. Firefighters fought the fire offensively, and the fire was under control within 10 minutes. The origin of this fire was determined by the Marysville Fire District Fire Marshal’s Office to be accidental caused by discarded smoking materials.

The estimated loss is $15,000. There were no injuries reported.

At the height of the incident more than 19 firefighters battled the blaze, with mutual aid provided by Getchell (Snohomish County Fire District 22), Lake Stevens (Snohomish County Fire District 8), and Silvana (Snohomish County Fire District 19).

The Marysville Fire District reminds everyone to properly dispose of all smoking materials. This was the third fire within the last four days caused by discarded smoking materials.
