MARYSVILLE City resident Frank Thiessen, 87, died following a pre-dawn traffic mishap on Feb. 29.
According to police, the victim was struck at about 5:20 a.m. by a passing car close to 9623 State Ave., near the Grocery Outlet. Public Information Officer Lt. Jeff Goldman said emergency crews found the man in the roadway not breathing and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man appeared to have been crossing the street at the time of the incident, but not near a crosswalk. State was closed for about four hours as officials investigated the incident.
Goldman said police still were awaiting toxicology reports, but it did not appear drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident. He also ruled out improper speed as being a likely cause of the accident. While an investigation is ongoing, Goldman described the death as a tragic accident and did not expect any charges to be filed against the driver.
