Peyton Brown of Arlington and Jelly Perry of Lakewood both competed in all-star basketball games last weekend.

Both of their teams lost.

Brown, playing for 3A, played 35 minutes and was 2-for-8 from the field, all 3-pointers, scoring 6 points in a 104-59 loss to the 4A all-star team.

Perry, playing for the 2A stars, played 41 minutes and scored 12 points. She was 4-8 from the field and 4-8 from the free throw line. She also grabbed 5 rebounds, but her team lost to the 1A stars 106-85.

Meanwhile, Brown, has been selected as the Snohomish County Basketball Officials Girls Player of the Year for 2017-18. She was recognized at a banquet March 10.

She said: “What’s really cool is that Lewis Pope from South Whidbey High School was recognized as the SCBBO Boys Player of the Year, and we’re both going to be playing basketball at Central Washington University next year.”

Throughout the season, officials observe athletes who are role models, leaders on the court, and who show good sportsmanship. “Peyton is exemplary as a team leader,” AHS athletic director Tom Roys said. “She’s a calming influence on the court and is a great teammate.”
