M’ville swimmers stand out; Arlington tennis keeps winning

MARYSVILLE – Junior Bindi Pederson of Marysville Getchell won the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley in a four-way meet Sept. 14.

In the team scoring, Monroe went 3-0, M-P went 2-1, MG 1-2 and Archbishop Murphy 0-3.

Katelyn Leary of Marysville-Pilchuck was second in that freestyle race, finishing 43 seconds behind Pederson. She also was second in the 100-yard butterfly.

Leary combined with Lauren Carson, Alexis Bennett and Camryn Cross to win the 200-yard freestyle relay. Alexis Kilbourne was first and Carson second in the 1-meter diving.

Emma Savidge of MG was second in the 100-yard backstroke. Bennett was first and Adrien Penny second in the 50 free. MG was second in the 200-yard medley relay with Savidge, Sophie Alt, Pederson and Penny. M-P was third with Cross, Carson, Bennett and Leary.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, M-P was second with the same four girls and MG third with basically the same lineup, except Isabella Bennett in place of Alt.

ARLINGTON – The boys tennis team from Arlington High School improved its record to 4-1, 2-0 in league, with a 5-2 victory over Oak Harbor Sept. 14.

Wins came from sophomore Taras McCurdie at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1 and freshman Vincent Loftis at No. 3 6-4, 6-4. The Eagles won all three doubles matches.

Seniors Will Eckley-Dean Shepherd won 6-2, 6-0; as did Ben Spores-Ben Nichols in No. 2 doubles. Juniors Cody Perdue-Tomas Ramirez won a tough one 6-4, 6-7 (10-8) and 10-7.

Seniors Connor Fochesato and Dominic Palmisano lost their singles matches.
