MG, M-P girls win; M-P soccer streak ends; Arlington 6th in golf (slide show)

MARYSVILLE – Coach Mike Moran was wondering how his Marysville Getchell girls softball team would respond after the spring break layoff.

He didn’t have to wait long to find out.

The Chargers scored seven runs in the first inning and cruised from there to beat Shorecrest 10-0 Monday in six innings.

Freshman Erica Martin, batting in the No. 8 spot, provided a big spark with a 3-run homer.

“It was her first home run” for MG, Moran said. “It hit the top of the leftfield fence and bounced over. It was pretty cool.”

Hannah Kranz also had a huge game at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run over the centerfield fence, a double and two runs batted in. She also scored twice.

Emily Petermeyer and Brionna Palm both went 2-3.

Palm also starred on the mound, not only shutting out the visitors, but also giving up just one hit while striking out nine with no walks.

The Chargers pounded out 14 hits and also had no errors.

Marysville-Pilchuck also ripped 14 hits in beating Shorewood 18-5.

The Tommies also took off from the start scoring six runs in the top of the first, adding six more in the second and three in the third.

Lilianne Fischer led the way going 3-3 with a double and Kelsey Edge also smacked a double going 2-2. Riley Perrine went 2-3, including a triple.

Winning freshman pitcher Emily Downing and teammate Mckenzie Becker combined on a four-hitter.
