M-P in soccer playoffs Saturday; MG beats Arlington; Lakewood girls win

MARYSVILLE

Soccer

Wesco North champion M-P ended its regular season with a 3-0 win over Stanwood.

M-P, (14-1-1, 12-1-1 Wesco 3A/2A) hosts the winner of a play-in game between Arlington and Lynnwood in the first round of the Class 3A District 1 tournament Saturday at 2 p.m.

Scoring in the finale were Davis Magee, Kyle Matson and Ashton Wolff. Getting assists were Alden Dufour, Leonardo Jaramillo and Ryan Benneman. The Spartans fell to 4-11-1 (3-10-1).

Meanwhile, MG scored a 5-2 win over Arlington Tuesday, scoring four goals in the first half and cruising from there.

Ethan Fuerte scored two goals, and Caden Kolling, Mark Popach and Robert Green Jr. scored a goal apiece for the Chargers (3-11-1, 3-10-1 Wesco 3A).

Furley Cork and Kayl Allen scored goals for Arlington (5-9-2, 4-9-1).

Tennis

M-P beat Lynnwood 4-3, but MG lost to Cascade Tuesday by the same score.

For the Tommies: Paige Bramer won at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1 and Taylor Bichel won at No. 2 6-2, 6-0. Joslynn Scharpp won at No. 3 6-1, 6-4, and Irina Gret barely lost at No. 4, 6-7 (4-7) and 5-7.

In doubles, Dana Bichel-Kristina Gret barely lost 5-7, 6-3, (3-10) as did Taylor Martin-Maggie Schaffler 3-6, 4-6. Katie Stuart-Athena Rondeau won at No. 2 6-2, 6-4.

Softball

M-P committed four errors helping Everett to a 12-8 Tuesday.

The Tommies tallied six runs in the top of the sixth to make it close.

Sydney Zachry led M-P going 3-4 with 3 RBI. Kelsey Campbell added a double.

Everett moved to 9-3, while M-P fell to 8-5.

ARLINGTON

Baseball

Marysville Getchell took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and held on to it until Arlington scored four in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-1 victory Tuesday in Arlington.

Senior catcher-pitcher Jack Sheward was the star of the game, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs batted in. Ben Spores went 1-2.

For MG, Trevor Loucks got the only hit.

Camdon Anderson, Cameron Smith and Sheward combined on the one-hitter.

Sean Brown pitched strong into the sixth inning before taking the loss.

Meanwhile, Marysville-Pilchuck Tuesday lost to Oak Harbor 8-5.

Boys golf

The Eagles finished fourth, M-P sixth and MG last in a Wesco 3A North match at Legion Memorial in Everett Tuesday.

Everett won with 293 points, the Eagles had 315, the Tommies 346 and the Chargers 360. Seagull Ronny Kildall shot a 69 to win medalist honors.

Tennis

In a non-conference matchup at Arlington, the Eagles fell to Kamiak 6-1 Tuesday.

Arlington won at No. 2 doubles by injury default after Vicki Applegate-Grace Bynum had been trailing 5-7, 3-4.

Hailey Brossard put up a tough match at No. 3 singles, losing 6-1, 6-7, 10-8. Softball

The Eagles edged Oak Harbor 8-7 Tuesday.

LAKEWOOD

Softball

Lakewood’s girls beat Mount Baker Tuesday 5-2.

Baseball

The Cougar baseball team’s season ended Tuesday with an 11-0 loss to Liberty in a 2A District 1 play-in game. Lakewood is eliminated while Liberty advances to the next round.
