MG diver has best shot at state going into districts

SNOHOMISH – Marysville Getchell diver Lexi Kilbourn has the best shot at going to state of any local swimmer, based on seedings released today for the Wesco 3A Girls Districts.

The competition starts Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Snohomish pool. It continues Friday at 5:15 p.m., and the finals will be Saturday at 4 p.m.

Kilbourn is ranked second going into the competition. Teammate Sophie Alt is rated seventh. Freshman Devon Keator of Marysville-Pilchuck is seeded fifth.

Cross country

LANGLEY – The Arlington Eagles boys and girls cross country teams qualified for state by placing second and third at the District 3A meet on Whidbey Island Saturday.

State will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sun Willows Golf Course in the Tri Cities.

For the boys, it was a two-way battle, but Edmonds-Woodway won with 38 points, and Arlington was second with 44.

Deyago Peraza of E-W won in a time of 16 minutes, 7 seconds. Eagle Quincy Fankhauser was fifth in 16:24 with teammates Noah Loftis eighth in 16:27, Blake Landry ninth in 16:35, and Favian Villanueva 10th in 16:35. Vincent Loftis finished 12th in 16:37, Aiden Emerson 14th in 16:39, and Chance Pearston 18th in 16:44.

For the girls, Arlington was third with 97 points. Snohomish won with 76. Lillian Visser of Shorecrest won in 19 minutes, 2 seconds.

Top finisher for Arlington was Anna Louise Fernandez placing ninth in 19:57. Placing 15th was Paige Nelson in 20:04.

Janae Parsons of MG also qualified for state by placing 18th in 20:06.

In the 2A meet, Lakewood qualified three runners for state.

Alex Williams of Mountlake Terrace took the boys race in 16 minutes, 34 seconds. Cougar Alex Jensen was 22nd in 17:25.

For the Lakewood girls, Callie Buchanan will go to state after placing 17th in 21:12. Alexa Daily also is going, finishing 22nd in 21:20. Madison Howe was 26th in 21:25.

Other Cougar girls who competed were: Holly Riley, 35th; Jaydee Yargus, 49th; Torrie Blackwood, 60th; and Joanna Schmidt, 64th.

Other Cougar boys who competed were: Gabe Hatch, 49th; Jesse Stoddard, 52nd; Mario Barletta, 54th; Ben Schmidt, 59th; Jarron Ransford, 66th; and Joseph Heisley, 69th.

Girls soccer

Saturday, Arlington lost its first-round game and plays a loser-out game Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Audrey Jay scored two goals and goalie Lexi Miller-Wood recorded a shutout to help Arlington beat visiting Marysville Getchell in a Class 3A Northwest District play-in game. The loss ends the season for the Chargers (3-11-3).

Jordan Bartlow scored the other goal and had an assist, as did Athena Dumadag and Riley Christensen.

In a 2A District 1 play-in game, Lakewood lost to Sedro-Woolley 2-1.

Football

Marysville Getchell beat Everett Friday 35-14.

The Chargers (4-5) will play Cascade Friday at Quil Ceda Stadium in a non-conference Week 10 crossover game.

Everett fell to 1-8 with the loss.

Cheron Smith scored TD runs of 5, 28 and 3 yards.

Caleb Koellmer pass touchdowns to Dylan Rice for 23 yards and Caleb Block for 7 yards. The Charger QB was 7-11 for 115 yards.

Smith carried the ball 20 times for 122 yards. Nathan Broome added 102 yards on 12 carries. And Koellmer had 76 yards on 10 carries.

Garrett Devereux led the receivers with three grabs for 55 yards.

The Marysville-Pilchuck High School football team beat Edmonds-Woodway in a 59-47 shootout Thursday.

Girls volleyball

Lakewood is in the 2A District 1 tournament, playing at Bellingham Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a loser-out game.

Thursday, Ferndale beat Lakewood three games to none.
