M-P edges MG in tennis

MARYSVILLE – It all came down to the No. 1 singles match.

Marysville-Pilchuck High School and crosstown rival Marysville Getchell were tied 3-3 in a Wesco match Tuesday at MG.

The rest of the matches were done so the players on both squads focused on what would happen between each team’s top players.

The battle between Jensen Corbett of M-P and Kenzie Gagnon of MG went back and forth throughout, with many long rallies. Corbett’s consistency won out in the end, beating Gagnon 6-4, 6-4. In the other matches:

•Destany Bogart (MP) beat Michelle Baena 6-2, 6-0.

•Meghan Zimmerman (MG) defeated Taylor Boyle 6-2, 6-3.

•Paige Bramer (MP) beat Maria Falcon 6-0, 6-4;

•Abby Pfeil-Hannah Jones (MG) defeated Natalie Grimm-Mariah Prater 6-3, 6-2.

•Cheyenne Coe-Dana Bichel (MP) beat Karry You-Marga Moller 6-2, 6-3.

•Sofia Trujillo-Aresli Marmolejo (MG) defeated Joslynn Scharpp-Athena Rondeau 6-3, 6-2.
