LAKEWOOD

The Cougars will play Ridgefield at 10 a.m. Friday in Selah in the State 2A Softball Tournament.

Lakewood is 18-3 after falling to Sehome 2-0 in the district title game. The Cougars had just beaten the Mariners three weeks ago 3-0 on a no-hitter by Riley Mae Swanson.

The Cougars have outscored their opponents this year 214-57, while Ridgefield, with a record of 16-4, relies more on its pitching, outscoring foes 146-32.

Not only is Swanson Lakewood’s top pitcher, she also leads the team in batting with an average of .597. The team’s batting average of about .380 is better than the Spudders, who average about .350.

Their top hitter is Mariella Newell, who bats .433.
