Homer not enough as MG loses by 1 (slide show)

MARYSVILLE – Marysville Getchell’s defense was on its game for most of the contest against Meadowdale Wednesday.

As a result, MG held a 3-1 lead after four innings. Meadowdale put a little pressure on the home team with a run in the fifth, scoring on a passed ball to make it 3-2.

But MG breathed a sigh of relief when Hannah Kranz crushed a homer over the leftfield fence to make it 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth.

But that’s when the Charger defense fell apart.

In the top of the sixth, two outfield errors and one in the infield led to three runs for the visitors. MG pitcher Brionna Palm had shut down Meadowdale to that point. A single tied it up and another single put the visitors ahead 5-4. It could have been worse but a double play help MG get out of the inning.

MG threatened in the sixth and in the bottom of the seventh had the bases loaded with two out, but the Chargers came up empty both times.

Meadowdale improved to 6-2, while the home team dropped to 3-5.
