Grace junior places at state for MG

FEDERAL WAY – Bindi Pedersen swam to second- and fifth-place finishes in her two races at the 3A State Meet Saturday at the King County Aquatic Center.

Pedersen, who swims for Marysville Getchell even though she’s a junior at private Grace Academy, was second in the 200-yard individual medley.

Her times of 2 minutes, 7.35 seconds was an amazing two seconds behind state champion Yanran Le of Squalicum. Pedersen was four seconds in front of the third-place finisher.

Pedersen also took fifth place in the 100-yard breaststroke at state with a time of 1:06.51, more than three seconds behind Le.

MG placed 19th in the team standings with 37 points. Bellevue was first with 281. Marysville-Pilchuck was 27th with nine points.

Getting points for the Tommies was diver Lauren Carson. She placed ninth with 303.5 points.

Along with Pedersen, diver Lexi Kilbourn helped MG by placing 11th with 300 points. The winner, Kayli Kersavage of Snohomish, totalled 395.5 diving points.
