Arlington beats MG in wrestling

ARLINGTON – Marysville Getchell started out strong, but then the host Eagles won nine of the next 10 matches to win going away.

The final score was 49-22.

The most exciting match of the night came at 145 pounds when Eagle senior Will Rush scored a reversal near the end to sneak by Charger junior Trey Padgett 4-2.

MG started strong with freshman Timmy Doroshuk winning by forfeit at 106 pounds. In two battles involving freshmen, Arlington’s Dorian Tollenaar beat Cody Mitchell 19-4 and then MG’s Miguel Garcia-Ramirez pinned Todd Smith in 1 minute, 20 seconds. MG had its largest lead of the match when senior Tanner Condon pinned junior Brenden Connelly in 5:01 at 126 pounds.

But that’s when the Eagles took off.

At 132 pounds, sophomore Gunner Olson pinned junior Jack Gallagher in 2:59.

At 138, senior Brantly Stupey pinned freshman Jesus Cabadas in 5:45.

After Rush’s win, junior Kaleb Andrews scored a major decision over freshman Christopher Bonner 14-5.

At 160, Colby Wammack pinned Skyler Elliott in 5:31 in a battle of seniors.

At 170, MG senior Devon Rose stopped the Arlington streak with an 11-2 major decision over junior Sam Rush.

But then the Eagles started another streak to finish the match.

At 182, junior Kristian Fairbanks edged senior Shane Reichlin 8-6.

At 195, Levi Wiseman scored a major decision over Corbin Bonner 12-0 in a battle of juniors.

At 220, Connor Stockman pinned Vincent Tran in 59 seconds in a battle of freshmen.

And at 285, Arlington’s Hayden Strande, a sophomore, won by forfeit.

Arlington’s next match is Dec. 16 at the Graham Morin Invitational at Squalicum starting at 9:30 a.m.

MG doesn’t wrestle again until Jan. 6, 2018 at the Sky Valley Invitational in Sultan at 9:45 a.m.
