EVERETT — Local athletes gracing The Marysville Globe and The Arlington Times sports pages might be in for a pleasant surprise in the coming weeks.

The Everett Silvertips began a partnership with The Globe and The Times to select an Athlete of the Week for each area.

“We wanted to try to find a unique way to get involved and we already had a program in the elementary schools,” said Zoran Rajcic, Director of Business Operations.

The Silvertips front office will select an outstanding player from each week’s edition of the The Globe and The Times and award them four tickets to an upcoming game.

Rajcic said that the decision was made to build a connection to the towns of Arlington and Marysville because of their strong sense of community and passion for athletics.

“We have a number of fans that come to our games from those areas,” he said. “And it’s our way of showing that we appreciate their support.”

This week’s winners were Marysville-Pilchuck freshman swimmer Hannah Taylor and Abby Burke of Lakewood soccer.

The awards will continue until the end of the Silvertips season, which could be as late as May, depending on performance.
