Lakewood track outnumbers competition

Lakewood athletes outnumbered the visiting Coupeville team about 5-to-1, rendering the track team’s first home meet a lopsided win for the Cougars.
The Lakewood boys and girls combined to win all but three events.
Freshman Ilyssa Haunreiter won three events on the girls side with the best time in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the best mark in the long jump. Senior Lacey Nation was a dual-winner, taking the 1,600 in 5:22.58 and the 3,200 in 11:46.68. Lakewood junior Franzi Opitz also won a pair of events for the girls, edging out teammates in the 100 and 200.
On the boys side, senior Devon Smith won the 100 and 400, just edging out Coupeville’s Tyler King in the latter event with a time of 54.29. Senior Nik Borisov won both boys hurdling events against a teammate, beating Anthony Tanner in the 110 and 300 hurdles.
In the field, senior Cameron Hess was a double winner as well, taking the shot put with a mark of 38-4 and the discus with 117-0.
