Tomahawk football stays perfect

“We did OK,” said M-P football coach Brandon Carson. “We moved the ball OK.”

While the Tomahawk football team finished their regular season with a 20-3 win over Oak Harbor and their undefeated record intact, it was their lowest-scoring output of the season.

Senior running back Caleb Posey put Marysville on the board as the team successfully drove down the field on their first possession, but the game was still 7-3 in the fourth quarter.

In that final quarter, Oak Harbor drove deep into Marysville territory, with a first and goal and the chance to go ahead. The Tomahawk defense buckled down with a goal-line stand, holding Oak Harbor at the one-yard line and getting the ball back with a turnover on downs.

That defensive play was quickly followed by a 94-yard scoring run by Ryan Sterley that helped put the game away. Junior running back Austin Denton added another score for the Tommies before time ran out.

“We made some good plays defensively,” Carson said after the game.

While the Tomahawks had locked up the league’s No. 1 seed the week before, it was Halloween night that the boys found out who their state opponent would be. M-P draws the fourth seed out of KingCo, and as Woodinville shut out Issaquah 21-0, the Tomahawks drew the 7-2 Eagles. The two teams will face off at Everett Memorial Stadium Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., but Carson isn’t taking much comfort from Issaquah’s score this week.

“They’re a really talented team,” he said. “They have a good running game, they’re big up front and physical. They throw it pretty well, too.”
