The Lakewood boys ran with some of the best, finishing second as a team at the Iolani Invitational during their Hawaii visit Sept. 22.
Anchored by top-20 runs from Nick Devier, Taylor Guske and Terrence Ordonez the boys took runner-up honors in a field of 19 teams. Trevor Walker and Chad Skiles rounded out the Cougar top five, with Miles Rossow and Austin Young nipping at sophomore Skiles heels.
The girls came to a 13th-place finish overall. Senior Sarah Dunn led her team, completing the three-mile course in 28th place at 21:09.26. Chelsea Sowards also finished in the first half of the pack, coming in 47th in a time of 21:48. Amber Burnell, Lacey Nation and Yvette Kelp rounded out the Cougars top-five finishers.
