Lakewood wrestling struggles in conference opener

Four of 14 rounds went to Lakewood in their conference opener Jan. 10 against Archbishop Murphy.
Each team ceded two rounds by forfeit, but the Wildcats won the meet 56-21 on Murphys mats.
At 145 pounds, Steve Bingham won a contested match, pinning his rival in the third round. Lakewood captain Billy McKeever claimed the Cougars other disputed round, taking a 4-1 decision at 152 pounds.
At 135 and 160 pounds respectively, Kolten Baker and Jasper Hauer were named victors by forfeit.
Lakewood ultimately fell on the other side of several close matches.
At 130 pounds, Lakewoods veteran female wrestler Keely Caldwell narrowly lost a 13-12 decision, and Aaron Leonard by a similar margin, 6-5, to Alex Martinez at 171 pounds.
