MARYSVILLE Senior Haley Nemra won the girls race and junior Ryan Lanphere helped set the pace on the way to a second-place finish in the boys race when Tomahawk cross country hosted Stanwood and Wesco South teams Jackson and Kamiak Sept. 27.
Lauren Ainsworth, Kaylie Kimmell and Marissa Schafer finished third through fifth on the three-mile route that wound through the M-P campus.
The race was a kind of warm-up for the teams trip two days later to the Nike Pre-Nationals in Portland, Ore.
Nemra took second in the Division 1 5k race, finishing the course in 19:01, while freshman Kiley Thomason rounded out the scoring set, finishing fifth for the Tomahawks and 72nd overall with a time of 21:06.
The boys competed in Division 2, where Lanphere took eighth overall. Sophomore John Crenshaw finished about 30 seconds behind him, in 17:14 for 16th place. Kevin Mangat, Josh Rasmussen and Josh Laquian finished in a pack to round out the scoring set.
