LA CONNER With the sweep of a doubleheader at La Conner April 25, Darrington boosted their fortunes and their record, improving to 8-4.
Seniors Skye Schillhammer, Justin ODell and Mark Jones handled pitching duties over the two games, with Schillhammer throwing a complete game and striking out 10 in their 7-2 first-game victory.
While Darrington accumulated a 4-0 lead midway through the game, the Braves put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth.
The Loggers answered by executing a squeeze play in the top of the sixth for the first of three more runs theyd score to secure the win.
ODell started on the mound for Darrington in the more closely contested second game. Darrington took a two-run lead in the top of the third, but watched it evaporate as La Conner answered with three runs of their own.
However, Jones took over on the mound and La Conner would score no more. Another three-run surge in the sixth inning of game two gave Darrington the comeback 5-3 victory.
The wins helped Darrington avenge a 4-1 loss April 1 and improve to a cluster of teams with eight wins behind an undefeated Friday Harbor team in Northwest League standings.
