The Marysville-Pilchuck girls took advantage of Everett and Stanwood teams, dispatching them both on their way to a 2-1 league record after losing the conference opener to Snohomish.
The Tomahawks outscored Everett more than two to one in a 60-26 home victory over the Seagulls Dec. 12. With a 23-point first quarter, M-P built and expanded a comfortable lead, with only their final quarter showing single-digit offensive output.
Junior Britt Harris led the Tomahawk offense with another double-double against Everett, she had 19 points and 11 boards. Senior forward Jessica Masters broke into double digits as well, with a 10-point performance.
Four players scored off the bench, contributing 22 points. Among them, Kaitlyn Enberg and Kylie Fordon each had an eight points.
Two nights later, M-P defeated Stanwood by a nearly 20-point margin. The Tomahawks, who had looked sluggish after halftime in games earlier this season, had their best output in the third quarter, clobbering the Spartans 59-40.
Harris has 22 points and senior forward Anna West had 12 on the way to the conference victory. Senior Nicole Peterson made a pair of three-point baskets to help the Tomahawks secure the win over a Stanwood team that edged them for the leagues fifth and final playoff slot in the 2006-07 season.
Once again, the bench played its part, this time chipping in 15 points, led by Dacia Heckendorfs six points.
The Tomahawks should face a test in their final two games before Christmas. On Dec. 19, they host Lake Stevens and Dec. 21 they visit Monroe, teams that finished second and first in the league last season.
