Lady Tomahawks basketball kicks off season by hosting jamboree
MARYSVILLE The bad news for the Lady Tomahawks is that Jackson and Lake Stevens outscored them 41-21 in their two jamboree games Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Jim Linden Fieldhouse.
The good news is that the two 10-minute games were merely scrimmage and coach Julie Martin was able to play all 12 varsity girls.
M-P lost to the Lady Timberwolves of Jackson High School 22-7 in the first contest and battled back against the Lady Vikings before falling 20-14.
It was fun and I got to play everybody, Martin said.
You only get 10 minutes to play 12 girls, but everybody played a little bit in each game. I am not surprised by the Jackson squad as they have two Division 1 players and we only have five returnees.
Senior Laura Degerness scored the games first four points against the Randy Edens coached Lake Stevens squad.
Edens teaches at M-P and coaches at the neighboring and competing school.
Juniors Nicole Pederson and Jessica Masters contributed baskets in the losing effort and Iceshay Wright got on the scoreboard also.
Wright transferred from Jackson High School in the off-season.
The Lady Tomahawks open their non-league schedule Wednesday, Nov. 29, against visiting Shorecrest.
Junior varsity begins at 5:40 p.m. and varsity tips off at 7:30 p.m.
